Phone signs

As a driver we are expected to be aware of our surroundings, be able to make emergency stops if required and drive responsibly. We are not allowed to use smart hand held devices whilst driving unless they are connected to a hands-free device as this may distract us from the road.

As a pedestrian surely we should also be aware of our surroundings too! Time and time again I see people walking along the pavement and crossing roads with their head facing down looking at or texting on a mobile device.

Last month I was turning off a main road into a street near our house and a pedestrian decided to cross the road whilst not looking. Why was she not looking? Because she was too busy texting on her phone. Thankfully there were no cars on the main road at that time but had there been, someone would definitely have gone into me as I had to wait for this girl to cross. Obviously I peeped my horn to get her to look up and move on so I could get off the main road to avoid any accidents. My kids were in the car at the time so it was a prime example which they witnessed of 'mobile zombies' and why I'm so against walking looking down at a mobile.

If your head is down looking at a phone you could be walking into anything - gates, lamp posts, people, cars.

With this in mind, I bet we could sell loads of these signs!

We've been very busy the last few weeks as well as processing orders we have given our website a complete 'makeover'. We wanted MJN Safety Signs Ltd to have a fresh modern look with better navigation to allow our customers to easily find the signs they require.

Let us know what you think!

I woke up this morning to read about the terrible fire that engulfed Grenfell Tower block in London.

The pictures in the news were awful! Seeing people standing by their window desperate to be saved, the building itself blackened and burnt, and once again communities have come together to try and help those now 'homeless' and in need. It has been suggested that the cause of the fire was an exploding fridge, it has been also suggested that the safety fire alarms may not have been working 100% but thorough investigations will inevitably take place.

Looking at fire safety, it's so important that staff and residents are informed of the fire safety procedures. Safety signs should be displayed highlighting where fire exits are should the need arise,  fire equipment is, fire action notices etc. Fire alarms and smoke detectors should be checked regularly. One of my biggest gripes is blocked fire exits. Fire exits should never be blocked! There are so many companies out there that can offer training or help in various health and safety areas and it's money well spent. Of course we can help you with the safety signs!

Since adding the automatic door signs to our website we've spotted them everywhere. Ok, yes on automatic doors and there are a fair few of them about but we were quite amazed at how many automatic doors there are. We spotted some pink ones in a car park at the weekend and wondered how popular they would be in that colour.

If you need any of these signs then please click on the link above which will take you straight to the page. If you are after large quantities of these then please feel free to pop us a quick email and we can arrange a good price.

Fire Safety Law

Fire Safety Law

Fire safety law

Fire safety law - This month we have been talking to Warren Spencer who has recently developed a new Fire Safety Law website. We were keen to find out a bit more;

Warren Spencer is one of the country’s leading fire safety lawyers. He has prosecuted and defended fire safety cases for over 12 years and has also conducted numerous Enforcement and Prohibition Notice Appeals brought under the Fire Safety Order. He is able to offer impartial professional expert legal advice in all aspects of fire safety enforcement.

He has recently developed a new website www.firesafetylaw.co.uk which brings together all of the important documents, guidance and commentary relating to the very niche area of fire safety law. To launch the website Warren has looked back on the first ten years of the Fire Safety Order, reviewing the data collected and providing his opinion on what the future may hold. The first of these three articles can be found here http://www.firesafetylaw.co.uk/10-years-of-the-fire-safety-order-part-1/

Parking

Last week I took my son to try out table tennis and carefully selected my parking space. The car park wasn't particularly big, the spaces were tight and as such I decided to opt for an end space so it was a case of reversing back and then I could drive straight out.....or so I thought!

The table tennis session ended and I ventured out to the car park. By this time it was dark and quite frosty. To my horror someone parked along side my car! I say 'horror' because it wasn't actually a parking space they were parked in and instead choose to have their car so close to mine that there was no way I could manoeuvre out. There was no room on the other side either and not enough room to reverse out and turn! In fact where they were parked was dangerous and irresponsible.

After 20 minutes and many failed attempts at trying to get out the space I had to call my husband to come and help. After almost 20 manoeuvres the car was finally out.

Although there were lines advising not to park, it was dark and the car could have easily missed them. A simple 'no parking' sign suitable positioned could have done the trick and prevented this silly car parking somewhere it shouldn't have parked.

Parking is definitely a nightmare. We get many customers order 'reserved parking' signs for car parks they manage,  signs advising which spaces are for customers, employees, disabled spaces and do no park in front of the gate signs. If you need any parking signs or customised parking signs please do feel free to get in touch as we can certainly help you out!

Signage - Thump! Thump! Thump!

The noise is coming from upstairs.

"What's that noise?" I yelled.

No answer.

Thump! Thump! Thump!

There it was again!

I dashed upstairs to find my kids have been doing bottle flips in their bedrooms. They have a stash of bottles they have been collecting and this is the new phase.  On achieving a successful bottle flip they celebrate with a dab. Thankfully there is no noise with the latter only the possibility of knocking someone out if they happen to be standing in the way.

How long is this phase going to last?

So when I came across the sign below, it did make me chuckle!

We've just added Double-sided no smoking window stickers to our website!

One of our customers was on the lookout for double sided no smoking window stickers to put on vehicle windows. Whilst we had no smoking stickers suitable for vehicles they weren't double sided. We managed to source them for him and decided that actually it was a great product to add to our website.

If there are signs, notices or labels that you need please drop us an email with the details and if we don't stock them we can source them or get them made as bespoke signs. At MJN Safety Signs Ltd, nothing is too much trouble.
